Ramily picture pages > Our garden is blooming
With our neighbours, we have begun the work of reclaiming an over-grown communal area and turning it into a vegetable co-op. Reclaiming social space for growing vegetables...and making friends with neighbors. Our work is starting to bloom!
-
the common ground
This is a picture of the middle, common area after all of the overgrown trees and shrubs had been taken out.
-
laying out the beds
We get the beds measured out. The boards are waiting in the background.
-
tending the soil
Digging out the rocks...this used to be the outhouse area for the tenement flats. So...not just stones, but a few bricks from foundations, too. But, the soil should be rich!
-
it's shaping up.
The beds are coming into place!
-
preparing the soil!
Turning in the compost!
-
It's growing!
The pea pods are blooming.
-
other crops, too...
Through the pea pods, you can see potatoes, lettuce and strawberries.
-
a rose by any other name...
It's beautiful!
-
wildflowers...
Even the grass looks nice!
-
the rest of the bed...
Although the focus is on the pea flower, you can see our carrots, onions, tomatoes and a little cucumber plant growing (despite all the slugs!)
